Music Sessions

Irish traditional music sessions are famously informal gatherings at which people play Irish traditional music. The Irish language word for “session” is seisiún.

At the Peoria Irish Fest, ours are “open” sessions, meaning anyone able to play Irish music is welcome. Always wanted to give it a try? This is your chance – EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

Here’s what generally happens: someone starts a tune, and those who know it join in. Good session etiquette requires not playing if one does not know the tune – or at least quietly playing an accompaniment part – and waiting until a tune one knows comes along.

But you’ll get all kinds of encouragement from our session leaders. Just look at the pictures from our last sessions.  Professionals and amateurs playing elbow-to-elbow, all focused on the tune. And such a wide range of ages!

Look for the session space in or around Malanaphy’s Pub on:

·         Sunday, August 25, from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m.
